India is a groundwater based civilisation, and wells were always a part of people’s lives. With the advent of piped water, wells slowly disappeared from people’s imaginations. This section hopes to revive that imagination by telling the stories of wells, new and old, and how they still make a difference to people’s lives.
An old house in Chamarajpet belonging to Mr Ananda Sanjeev was demolished. There is an open well attached to the house. Here is the story in Mr Sanjeev’s own words:
Kamesh Mahadevan lives in an independent house in Vidyaranyapura. There was a 30 ft deep well in the compound that he said used to hold water throughout the year. But it was located unfavourably from a vaastu point of view, so the elders in the family got it closed.
The Rail Wheel Factory (RWF), is a unit of Indian Railways, established in 1984. It manufactures and supplies 95% of the wheels, axles and wheel sets required by Indian Railways.
